Overview:
In January, Bali shifts from the dry season, bringing smaller swells, and occasional rain-free days. Plan your sessions based on wind direction — it will determine whether you can surf the west side or suggests exploring east side spots.
West Coast Spots:
Batu Bolong/Old Mans: famous and consistent longboarding spots work even in moderate onshore winds. Crowded and go-to for all levels of surfers.

Balian or Medewi: Escape the crowds and discover long, quality, peeling lefts up the west coast.
East Coast Spots:
Serangan offers diverse peaks and consistent waves, making it perfect for crowds. It works on all tides and picks up a lot of swell.

Nusa Dua has multiple breaks, working on various tides. It works best during W winds. Each break works best with a different swell size, so there's almost always a rideable wave.
Plan B: Bukit
Swell Magnets
When the rest of the island seems flat, head to the south of Bukit Peninsula. Spots like Pandawa and Greenbowl act as swell magnets, picking up the most of it. Suitable for intermediate+ when swell is extra small with light winds, varying with different tides.
Surf Forecast Interpretation Example:
On Sun, swell at 3ft, suitable for beginners. On Mon, swell gradually picks up. On Tue, peak swell reaches 5ft, offering optimal conditions for various skill levels.
Weekly Outlook:
The swell is expected to peak on Tuesday and Wednesday, marking them the best days of the upcoming week. Moderate winds create favorable conditions for surfing on both coasts.
